A minecraft map covering 42 square miles of irradiated Chernobyl. Download Chernobyl in minecraft and explore the abandoned Russian city, infested by mutant creatures. It includes the disabled nuclear reactor, abandoned factories and houses, city infrastructure including massive power poles, their wires long since rotted away by radioactive acid rain. There’s even the infamous Pripyat ferris wheel to frolic around – and by frolic, I of course, mean run screaming around whilst gnawing on the rotten flesh of zombies – which is still healthier than actual food found in the region today.
Aside from being huge, the map also goes into great detail, taking all the landmarks from Pripyat and the Chernobyl plant and placing them into playable minecraft format, without the need for a radiation suit. You can wander around the great reactor, check out the office spaces surrounding the area, and visit apartment blocks where people once lived, hardly aware of the threat which loomed close.
You can use this minecraft map as a server map, perhaps if you want to build yourself a SMP server with a post nuclear disaster theme. This map can also be used for PvP, or simple minecraft survival. The map maker’s original intention was to create a S.T.AL.K.E.R minecraft server map, to that end the creator has made both Chernobyl and Pripyat. Give it a little more time and the entire S.T.A.L.K.E.R series could be remade anew. The only significant issue with the map is the fact that because it was not created in the natural minecraft way, there are no ores. That rather adds to the realism of the post nuclear experience, but it doesn’t much help with the attempt to survive naturally. Ores can be edited in with world painter quite easily, so that doesn’t need to be a deal breaker. Simply wave the ore painter brush and the hills will be alive with the music of groaning zombies, and rich with veins of iron and coal.
