A complete the monument map with only two monument blocks (and two monument weapons,) Lake of Mirrors sounds like an easy minecraft CTM map. But it’s not. The first thing that makes it difficult is the fact that it is made in hardcore mode. That’s a pretty big thing. It means that this map is merciless and you only get one chance to battle glowstone headed skeletons and win.
This is a very pretty minecraft map, so much so that it can lull you into a false sense of security. After all, what problems could you face in this gorgeous oasis that a pointy stick and a porkchop won’t solve?
Put it this way, I was killed within about thirty seconds of descending into the map proper, by a glowing skeleton who was using the legendary weapon I was supposed to be collecting for the monument. So, on the positive side, at least one of the CTM items isn’t that hard to find. On the other hand, this map contains less than one minute of play for the unwary or unwilling to re-extract.
On my second attempt I was accosted by two skeletons and finished off by a creeper – long before I got anywhere near that pretty lake.
This map isn’t being billed as a rage quit map, but it may as well be. A word to the wise – spend some time around the monument building up defenses if you know what’s good for you. The spawn rates on this map are out of this world and fighting on a cliff face rarely works out well for anybody – lest of all players with only one minecraft life to live.
If you’re looking for a challenging CTM map with plenty of combat and conflict, this is the map for you. This map doesn’t coddle, provide respite or even really give you half a chance.
I think people will like it.
