It’s not the height that gets you, or the falling – so much as it is the suddenly hitting the ground. You might want to play on easy anyway because the simple act of finding a tree to craft a simple sword with is not as easy as you might imagine.

No effort has been spared in the development of this map, which comes with its own original soundtrack. Excited yet? You should be.
Most minecraft adventure maps begin with a single premise: you are a traveller / adventurer / trader who has mysteriously woken up / crashed / landed on an island / box / volcano far from civilization. If you find that trite, then you’re going to be super stoked with the premise of the Pastry Pirates map, which is as follows:

The word ‘sandbox’ might lead you to believe that there will be nothing to do besides marvel at the charming and whimsical builds that the creators have poured their delicate little hearts and souls into, but no, there’s more. There are puzzles to solve, treasures to find and the general ambiance of Jeffy-ness to embrace! Maps have been put to excellent use, instead of being simple blocky directions they act as messages, putting text into the game without the need for mods or reading external .txt files.
The Pastry Pirates: Clockwork Garden minecraft map download comes with its own texture pack, images, lore, music and yes, a finely crafted story line that will keep you wandering from dawn ’til dusk, whereupon you will eagerly go to bed in the simple hope of waking to explore another day. There are three versions of the map to download, a complete pack which includes the aforementioned lore and music and such, a simple survival edition with just the map and texures and a creative mode, so you can fly through the place pouring lava on everything.
Are you looking for a minecraft texture pack that makes you feel as if you’ve been punched in the eyes? Yes? Then Irridescent Dreams, a texture pack from Steelfeathers, creator of the Victorian Enchanted texture pack is for you.
I’m not saying that this is a bad texture pack, in fact, it’s really not. It achieves what it sets out to do, ie, it is bright and irridescent and somehow just a little transcendent. But beauty really is pain when it comes to this artistic rendering of the minecraft world.
There is a reason why this relatively odd texture pack was created, it was created on a dare during a late night session of activities that cannot be named. Or, in Steelfeathers’ words:
Iridescent Dreams was made for [a contest] using a grand total of 16 colors. That’s right, only 16 colors for the whole darn thing. We were given the palette below and tasked with making a texture pack from it. Moron that I am, I decided to give it a try. Iridescent Dreams was the result.
Is it high definition? It’s beyond high, but I’m not so sure about the definition part. This is a 32x texture pack, but is has a very 16x feel, mostly in the hard and jagged edges you’ll see on the wood plank textures. This probably isn’t pack you’ll play with for extended periods of time, but it might be just the thing you’re looking for if you want to see your minecraft creations in a new light.
I don’t often write about Minecraft HD texture packs these days, mostly because every man and his dog is already doing it. But once in a great while a texture pack comes along that inspires me to speak on its behalf, Steelfeathers’ Victorian Enchanted Pack is one of those texture packs.
It’s no surprise that this texture pack really comes into its own with the more interior textures (beds, enchanting tables, chests, brick). That’s because the Victorians didn’t precisely have a monopoly on nature. If anything, this texture pack is designed to make your creations really stand out from the landscape as edifices of culture and civilisation.
Don’t take that to mean that the exterior textures have in any way suffered from lack of attention. On the contrary the smooth, almost silk like textures have a way of making the world seamless. Flowers especially make for small spots of gorgeous respite from the grassy plains and knols.
Most animals have been reskinned, with the notable exception of chickens. The GUI continues with the Victorian theme and is relatively usable. The only gripe I have, and it is a gripe I have with most eveyr texture pack, is the fact that ores seem very startling to the eye. Whilst this makes them easy to spot at a distance it can also lend an unreal feeling to the landscape because they are patchy. It would be nice to see some retextured ores that blend with other ore blocks to create a continuos vein.
That minor quibble aside, I cannot reccomend Steelfeathers’ Victorian Enchanted Pack enough. It’s not a huge step up in pixel terms, just 32 instead of the standard 16, so it shouldn’t cause memory problems, but what it does with those extra 16 pixels squared is very special indeed.
This futuristic / modern (pick your poison when it comes to terminology, all I can tell you is that fridges exist in this map) adventure map is one of the best I’ve played in terms of world immersion, attention to detail and overall design. If you’re looking to lose yourself in a gripping adventure that will have your eyes widening in surprise at every turn, The Tower of Xotl is a minecraft adventure map you’ll want to download.
It even comes with its own texture pack, which is almost always an indicator of quality in an adventure map. A maker who has taken the time to make the map look right is a maker that cares. The texture pack is an integral part of the map, without the texture pack you have a mismash of textures that make no sense. If you want a somewhat abstract experience, you could always play on the default map I suppose.
Though the infantile use of ‘da rules’ on the welcome sign might make you want to delete the map the moment you open it, don’t. This map has been put together with extreme care and tells a story with additional text and images that come in the accompanying files. The writing is actually pretty good too (something you wouldn’t guess from the mode of welcome.)
