Oh minecraft survival cubes. They’ve all been done before. But not like this:
Oh my! This is a desert like none seen before. Look at those towering pillars of sand. Now look again and realize that this is a CTM (complete the monument) map and realize that there’s probably something valuable under all those tonnes of silica and ground rock. Hope you’ve got a shovel at the ready. Or fifty.

Don’t just survive, thrive and complete a monument! Olympus was the mythical home of the gods, but the crater like hell valley you find yourself in leaves you feel anything but like a god. The view as you leave the crater of Mt Olympus is awe inspiring, but there are no gentle olive groves or peaceful Greek villages. There’s an awful lot of darkness and lava and an ominous dark cloud floats all o’er the land.
Traps and tricks abound on Mt Olympus, placed there by vengeful gods with a twisted sense of humor, no doubt. In order to survive you’ll need to carve out a little nniche of paradise in among the lava hell, and in order to complete the map you’ll need to collect a bunch of animal eggs and avoid the temptation to use them to get a couple of pork chops or strips of leather because you’ll need them to complete the monument.
This map is compatible both with the current 1.3.2 release and also the 12w38b snapshot, if you’re the sort of person who likes introducing unstable features into your game (and I highly recommend it.)
There be dungeons, there be dragons, there be challenges of all kind in this dangerous and exciting minecraft survival map.
Athelarum Caverns is a minecraft map that falls between two stools and drags you down with it. That was a compliment. I have to admit that I spent an inordinate amount of time tip toeing around this map reluctant to break anything until I realized it was a survival map and I could actually destroy and rebuild as I saw fit.
It’s also a Complete The Monument map. I found no wool in my time playing it, but I did find 64 jackolanterns so that was nice. I suppose you could say that this is a hard map, that taken into consideration. In some cases you only have one opportunity to collect wool before it is destroyed. This means that your odds of actually completing the monument are pretty low.
On the bright side, there’s an awful lot of trying to find saplings and wood to entertain you and if you can find some dirt to grow food on you’ll be doing pretty well. I’d say for best results, ignore the monument and concentrate on trying to stay alive for more than one minecraft week with no bread or animals to satisfy your hunger. I hope you like the taste of rotting flesh, because zombies are about the only thing on the menu.
A survival CTM map, Giant Creeper Survival involves a really, really giant creeper. A creeper many hundred times your size. Your mission? To dissect the creeper, find all the colored wool blocks and complete the monument.
The first challenge this map throws at the player is actually getting to the creeper. Bridge building is therefore a very important skill.
As the sun sets on your first day on the small island in the sky, the fire in the creeper’s eyes seems to grow higher, inviting you into its dangerous belly. If you’re playing on anything other than peaceful, you’ll behold the touching, yet entirely creepy vision of baby creepers being spawned in the mouth of the mother creeper.
Exploration is quickly rewarded in this survival map, so don’t be shy to tear down every structure you see. The innards of the creeper are a dangerous place to be sure, but there are rewards for those who valiantly persist in their mission despite the many dangers.

Giant. Diamond. Creepers. Three worlds that should get your pulse racing, your stomach churning and your palms sweating. Wealth of the World is the sort of minecraft map download that legends are made of, it gives you the leeway to be who you really are whilst constantly tickling your funny bone and setting challenges that you can’t wait to rise to.
Most CTM maps involve grubbing about the place for some colored wool, but Wealth of the World takes a different approach. Instead of wool, you must offer animal eggs to appease giant diamond creepers who wish to cook them. It makes about as much sense as anything else does in minecraft, so I’m all for it.
I also like the way the map is designed to be played on peaceful. There’s nothing more irritating than trying to complete goals whilst being sniped by a jumpy skeleton.
The survival part comes in where you have to cut down trees to create tools and all that sort of thing. This is a map that actually lets you play minecraft whilst you play the map, unlike other similar maps that forbid the breaking of blocks. I bite my thumb at them.
Wealth of the World comes with the PigCraft texture pack by the same creator. I tried playing with it but didn’t find that it really added a whole lot to the experience. No matter how many people try to ‘improve’ the mineral textures, the default texture pack really does seem to have them beat at the outset. Because they don’t really matter, precious minerals are scattered all over the map, there are diamonds for everyone!
This is definitely a special map, one that survival and adventure players will both enjoy. The CTM mechanic fits in neatly and isn’t there only to compensate for the otherwise meaningless nature of the map. (That is to say, this map has some kind of inherent merit.)
Ah, that’s enough words. Go download it and play it! Collect those eggs and sacrifice them to the creeper gods!
