I reviewed this map back when it was in its early stages and was just blown away by it then. This is a map of the entire planet earth made, to scale, in minecraft. It’s huge of course, just under half a gig of data to download but man oh man is it basically the perfect minecraft map. With the minecraft earth map you can finally live your dream of conquering the world without reality getting in your way. From the great deserts to frozen wastelands, this is a snapshot in time compiled by using satellite images from NASA to render the world as it was around the end of the 21st century.
Was that a Matrix reference? Oh yes, because you are now free to create your own matrix on this landscape. There are no cities, but there are signs where cities are currently located, so if you want to rebuild New York or Paris and give yourself a penthouse apartment that looks out over the Champs y Broadway, that’s doable. This really is an exciting minecraft, one of the very few ‘must downloads’ out there. It comes in two formats, SSP and SMP, so you can play it singleplayer and multiplayer.

A minecraft adventure / puzzle map set in an Egyptian tomb, King Spoon’s Tomb is full of dangers for the unwary explorer. Lord Canarvon himself would think twice before setting foot even in the very outermost of chambers of the resting place of the great King Spoon.
This map does contain a pet peeve of mine, which is a difficult lava based parkour challenge right at the very beginning. Maybe my parkour skills lag substantially behind those of the average Minecraft player, but I get really tired of landing in lava fifty times before I even start a map. If that sounds annoying to you, skip this map because there are even harder lava challenges ahead. This is not a map that holds your hand and pets the back of it and tells you how wonderful you are. This is a map that goes out of its way to hurt you in ways that are inventive and amusing if your humor turns in that direction.
Perhaps unsurprisingly there is quite an element of maze solving involved in this adventure map, passages upon passages wind their way through the tomb. The mazes are in no way kind and the phrase ‘dead end’ means more than just having to turn around and try another route. If you find yourself at a dead end, that means yo end is dead. There’s no end to the viciousness the creator has unleashed upon the player, oftentimes employing multiple means of dealing damage to remove any possible hope for survival. I found myself actually reluctant to even try to get rewards because the punishments were so frequent and harsh.
If you get tired of the tomb, it’s quite fun to wander the map and look at the other half abandoned builds that are scattered about the place. The creator tells you specifically not to do this, but hey, he’s not around – is he?
King Spoon’s Tomb is one heck of a high quality minecraft adventure map and it’s not a bad puzzle map either. It might very well push you to the brink of sanity, but don’t let that stop you from downloading it.

The Dropper has one simple requirement for those that play it: survive the fall.
What’s truly fun (and when I say fun, I mean, a good ego check) is that it’s possible for you to fail this simple task almost immediately, albeit in a truly spectacular way. The opening level of ‘The Dropper’ (pictured in the image above) put me in mind of the opening of Alice in Wonderland, tumbling down the rabbit hole. In fact, that’s what this level should really have been called, in my humble opinion. You fall and you fall and you fall and then you realize that the landing is going to have very unpleasant consequences if you can’t figure it out.
It took me five or six attempts to survive the first fall through the glass and glowstone worm tower. It would have taken fewer if I hadn’t tried to cheat my way around the system a couple of times only to realize that The Dropper is strict and stringent in its rules.
You will be impressed by this map, not only has a lot of building time gone into it, but the challenges are very well balanced and there’s some impressive redstone work to admire as well, including an elevator that shuffles you all the way to the top of the map with ultimate piston technology.
Made for both multiplayer and singleplayer, you can play The Dropper minecraft map alone or with friends. Playing with friends will be an experience to remember as each of your group has to develop the finesse and control to make their avatar glide gracefully through the air before landing unharmed in the few safe spots.
The Dropper is described as an Adventure / Puzzle map, but I actually think the creator has effectively made an entirely new genre here using the minecraft falling mechanics and gravity system in a way that few, if any other minecraft maps have done.

Stratosphere survival minecraft map is basically a sky island map multiplied and built up and developed and sent to school and come back with a degree in philosophy and telling you how consumerism is a waste of time and eventually ending up unemployed. I may have overextended that metaphor but don’t let that put you off the map, this is a brilliant and wildly popular minecraft map with over 50,000 downloads. That’s right, over fifty thousand downloads.
Why so popular? Perhaps it is because from the moment you spawn you see brilliant and exotic locations in the distance, locations that can only be reached by sustained effort and mammoth bridge building. This is a deluxe survival map, a survival map that gets back to basics whilst also reaching forward to a future where creativity is cannibalized for the baser needs of survival.
Because of the scope and mass of the islands you’ll be working on survival for quite some time, all the while teetering over the inevitable void, whose yawning maw always waits for a misstep, an accidental double forward arrow press that sends you sprinting into the great beyond, so watch your step and your face and the rest of you too.

Like many fine adventure maps, this one starts off with robbing the graves and homes of the dearly departed. Then you run through an awful lot of tunnels and jump over fiery lakes of lava and sort of halfway pay attention to the story that’s unfolding all around you.
Only being able to sleep at night makes things a tad odious as you have to stand around and wait for night to fall. Also falling into pits of lava gets pretty old too. Parkour elements are all very well and good, but when you lose the only bow and arrows and sword you have in it then that’s not exactly great. Be sure to put your weapons in the chest when it tells you to do it.
Perilous redstone traps and tricks are the order of the day, so be ready for everything and anything. You’ll need your wits, speed and crafting skills to get you through this very challenging adventure alive. Seriously, remember to save at every bed, even if it means waiting until night falls, because you never know what’s coming around the corner.
